Tokyo Online University is a Japanese distance learning institution where you can earn your degree entirely online.
Tokyo Online University (TOU), established in April 2018, is a Japanese university with two faculties: the Faculty of Information Management and the Faculty of Human Welfare.
Many of our students work full-time while pursuing their studies.
With few exceptions, most classes are delivered as on-demand online lectures.
Students can take courses in Japanese from abroad and earn a degree from a Japanese university.

Tokyo Online University has students ranging in age from their teens to their 80s. While half of our students are working professionals who study while managing their careers, we also have recent high school graduates and students balancing education with parenting.
Credit system in Japan
- Bachelor degree needs 124 credits for 4 years.
- One credit needs 45 hours study.
- Students usually take from 30 to 40 credits a year.
- Japanese 1 credit is equivalent to almost 1.5 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System).

This is a class structure.
One class consists of 4 video lectures and one quiz session.
We offer video lectures as micro formats. Each video is about 15 minutes long.

Dual Degree Program with Uzbekistan National University
We have established a dual degree program with Japan Digital University (JDU) in Uzbekistan. Through this program, JDU students can receive education at JDU in Uzbekistan while also participating in the Information Management Program at Tokyo Online University. Upon graduation, students will be awarded degrees from both universities.

A delegation from FODE, the distance education institution operated by the Papua New Guinea Department of Education, visited Tokyo Online University to deepen their understanding of Japanese distance education.
